The aircraft industry is a strategic sector for the development of Mexico which has maintained strong growth in recent years as shown by the following indicators: 

Mexico occupies first place in aircraft manufacturing investment in the world with US$33 billion from 1990 - 2009 and is the sector with highest investment interest in the country.

It is the ninth largest supplier of aeronautical products to the United States, above nations such as China, Korea, Australia and Spain.

Between 2006 and 2010 the number of businesses in the country duplicated, going from 109 to 238 industrial plants, located in 17 states around the Republic and generating 30,000 jobs with above-average salaries.

During 2010 exports from the aeronautical sector reached US$3.2663 billion, an increase of 29.5% over 2009. Up to October 2011, exports from the sector topped US$3.6207 billion, an increase of 37.4% compared to the same period in the previous year. It is estimated that by the close of 2011, exports will surpass US$4 billion, the highest figure in history.

Total imports of the aeronautical industry in 2010 reached US$2.8647 billion, 31.9% more than in 2009. Up to October 2011 the amount of imports is US$2.9663 billion, an increase of 33.8% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Mexico's aeronautical sector has maintained a trade balance surplus: in the last six years it has shown an average surplus of US$515.6 million.

The introduction of the PRO-AÉREO: Aerospace Industry Strategic Program 2012-2020 has as its primary objective to integrate the strategies and policies which contribute to furthering the development of this important sector, seeking to place Mexico among the top 10 countries with the highest aeronautical sales in the world. The PRO-AÉREO will consolidate the industry's growth and drive it towards clear goals which enhance its manufacturing, engineering and design capacities.

The Mexican Aerospace Industry Directory 2011 shows 249 businesses and support entities and their distribution through 16 states of the Republic.
