The Ministries of Tourism and Economy present the model of Mexico as a case of success at the Harvard University

PRESENTAN SECTUR Y ECONOMÍA MODELO DE MÉXICO COMO CASO DE ÉXITO EN LA UNIVERSIDAD DE HARVARD

The Ministry of Tourism of the Federal Government, Ms. Gloria Guevara Manzo, and the Ministry of Economy, Mr. Bruno Ferrari Garcia de Alba, had a meeting with the academic community of the Business School at the Harvard University (Harvard Business School), in Boston, Massachusetts, in order to present the Model of Mexico as a case of success in matter of economy and tourism.

During the meeting, they talked about the achievements in matter of tourism, and the stability of the national economy despite the challenges faced in recent years such as the recession in regions of the United States and Europe, as well as the outbreak of the AH1N1 virus.

Professors of the Business School of Harvard, including experts in economy and marketing, participated with special interest in Mexico and the area of Latin America, as well as students of Master of Business Administration and editors of the Harvard Business Review, the magazine of such organization specialized in business.

The Head of the Tourism Ministry, Ms. Gloria Guevara Manzo, said that the strategy implemented during the administration of President Felipe Calderon Hinojosa placed tourism as a priority in the national agenda having possible results that allowed reaching record figures in 2011 with more than 191 millions of domestic and overseas visitors.

She explained that in this administration the public investment in tourism exceeded 31,485 million pesos. This amount represents a growth of 300 percent, while the private investment in the sector has been higher than 19.5 billion dollars.

Furthermore, she emphasized the strengthening of the strategy of market diversification developed by the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and the Tourism Promotion Board of Mexico, making promotions in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and Latin American, which has allowed increasing the number of international visitors in more than 140 citizenships in our country.

On his side, the Ministry Bruno Ferrari emphasized that Mexico has a solid, dynamic, stable and growing economic environment, and mentioned that our country has a leadership in sectors such as the advanced and high technology manufacturing. This situation has deserved the recognition of investors and consultants at a global level. He also said that our country has been consolidated as an international reference in matter of business for its exports volume, specially manufacturing; its great internal market, the opening of trade treaties and agreements, its strategic geographic location and its specialized manpower.   

Ministries proposed the academic authorities to include a special edition about Mexico on the Harvard Business Review.

During their visit to Harvard, Ministries of Tourism and Economy were accompanied by Aldo Musacchio, Associate Professor of Business Administration. They also met with Mexican students of Master in the Business School.
